As the evenings become darker and we spend more time indoors, there’s no reason to leave autumn colour at the garden door.

Houseplants are an excellent way to introduce greenery and natural texture into your home throughout the year, while seasonal plants can provide an additional splash of colour during autumn.

Choose plants with colourful foliage such as the Polka Dot Plant (Hypoestes phyllostachya), interesting textures like Zebra plant (Aphelandra squarrosa) or seasonal flowers to brighten living spaces, hallways and windowsills.

Autumn is also a good opportunity to review the position of your existing houseplants. As natural light levels begin to change, some plants may need to be moved closer to a suitable light source. Avoid placing them directly beside radiators, over underfloor heating, or in draughty areas, particularly as heating is switched on more regularly.

Create Seasonal Displays

You can also bring the colours of autumn indoors through simple seasonal displays.

Use natural materials such as autumn foliage, branches, seedheads, berries and dried flowers to introduce texture and colour. Grouping a selection of seasonal elements together in a vase or decorative container can create an attractive focal point without requiring a major change to your interior.

Think about bringing the same colour palette from your garden into your home. Deep reds, warm oranges, golden yellows and earthy browns can create a welcoming, seasonal feel.
